IMG_1156Since last  year  the  organizing  committee  for  the  2016  Asian  Congress  on  Oral  and  Maxillofacial Surgery  has  been busy  going  around  the  region  and  the  world  promoting  the said  congress.    A  lot  of enthusiastic  participants  from  around  the  globe  have  signified  their  intention  to  see  our beautiful  country  and learn  updates,  trends  and  technological  advancement  in  the  field  of  oral  and  maxillofacial surgery.

Among  the  featured  lecturers  coming  to  Manila  is  world  renowned  author,  educator  and  clinician  Prof. Daniel  Laskin.    Prof  Laskin  is  a  honorary  fellow  of  the  Philippine  College  of  Oral  and  Maxillofacial Surgeons  who  has  previously  lectured  in  the  country  during  the  50th  anniversary  of  the  college coinciding  with  the  national  conference  of    that  year.    Dr.  Laskin  together  with  other  experts  will  be  leading  the  scientific  sessions  of the  12th  ACOMS.      “What  the  delegates  could expect  for  this  congress  is  the  same  expertise  that  all  ACOMS  congress  lecturers  have  provided but  with  a  touch  of  Filipino  Culture”,  Dr. Andy  Fernandez the  Local  Organizing  Chair  said.

Aside  from  the three day scientific  lectures, a four  (4)  pre-congress seminar was organized,  which features a lecture-workshop  on  Cranio- maxillofacial  trauma  management,  on research  and  a  session  on  implant  dentistry.   “The  12th  ACOMS  prepared  a  roster  of  activities  that  suit  the  need  of  every  participant,  not  only  in the  pursuit  of  knowledge  but  also  in  building  friendship  amongst  different OMS groups in the Asian region.    Aside  from  the scientific  program  of  the  congress  the  trade  exhibits  aim  to  present  the  latest  advances  in  the    field of  science  and  technology”  Dr.  Mario Esquillo the President  of  the  Asian  Association  of  Oral  and  Maxillofacial Surgeons.

“Truly  ACOMS  is  more  fun  in  the  Philippines”



robert q bowling 2Unknown to many is the secret life of PCOMS president, Fellow Robert Achilles Quiambao.

Aside from handling the day to day activities and programs of the Philippine College of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons he is also a decorated Bowler.  In a recent feat he was crowned Champion in the singles category at the recently concluded PDA bowling tournament, he has also been awarded with the most number of strikes and the highest single game.  robert q bowling 1

Other achievements include being a finalist at the Bowling World Cup National Finals in 2014. He also regularly joins stock car racing.

Midyear Convention at the City of Pines


The cool air of Baguio coupled with the warm hospitality of its host made for a conducive day for learning as Benguet Dental Chapter hosted this years PCOMS Midyear Convention at the Newtown Hotel in Baguio City.

The day started early as the packed room listened to the first lecture on the state of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in the country, and as the day continued on with the other 5 scheduled lecture more tables are set up to accommodate the nearly 200 participants who attended the midyear convention.


The fellows of PCOMS together with attendees from dental chapters in northern luzon and some trainees gathered to listen to the lectures givemidyr2015n by fellows Dr. Cynthia Del Castillo, Dr. Ida Balanag, Dr. Mariusse Esquillo, Dr. Jay Hansel Tabije, Dr. Eliezer Blanes and Dr. Mendelssohn Manalaysay.  The program tailored for the practice in the region was carefully made by PCOMS continuing education chair Fellow Gary Brillo.  It was comprised of topics from diagnosing oral lesions to interpreting imaging modalities then surgical approaches and treatment protocols to salivary gland lesions and cleft lip and palate.
